Spiders, Creeks and Hurricanes

Just a few weeks ago we were warned over and over on the radio and by locals that we needed to prepare for Hurricane Hannah. We prepared by having bottles of water on hand, a few days worth of food and batteries for our flashlights but Hurricane Hannah turned out to be nothing more than a few inches of rain for Wake Forest, North Carolina. The kids enjoyed the rain because it filled up the nearby creek and they swam in the current. I am thankful we didn't have to deal with any flooding although I do confess a slight disappointment at the lack of wind and excitement. Life has not lacked excitement, however.

We "found" a nearby creek with a lovely tree-shaded path and this has provided countless hours of swimming fun, finding spiders, turtles, snakes, poison ivy (that was me) and lots of other wildlife. This sort of makes up for their homesickness for the botanical gardens in Penang where they used to wander down the creek and find turtles, goldfish and leeches. We see squirrels in the trees instead of monkeys but at least they don't bother us. Cameron still calls the squirrels "monkeys".

Cameron got a tricycle and is riding so well now! With the right tricycle he immediately caught onto pedalling and now he's getting speedy. He is also learning letter sounds in school (school at home) and surprising me with his memory! He is really growing up...I hope you enjoy the pictures and leave me a comment. Thanks for visiting!
